Natural Botox Alternative

Natural Botox Alternative

I’m just going to be transparent here.

Over the past few years, I’ve come to seriously regret all of the years of sun worshiping I did in my teens and 20s. The fine lines and wrinkles are here. I’ve also got facial redness, broken capillaries, and some dark spots for good measure. Oh, and I’ve also got dark circles under my eyes that I like to blame on being so tired I couldn’t see straight for a couple of years after having my babies.

While I love the idea of Botox magically erasing my lines and wrinkles, I don’t love that Botox works by temporarily paralyzing muscles and is made from a neurotoxin. I’m not judging women who get Botox, but I’ve always preferred more natural alternatives to drugs and procedures when possible.

If you can identify, I have news for you! There is a natural Botox alternative, and I’m now offering it at Bravo Women’s Chiropractic!!!

This natural Botox alternative treatment has four parts:

  • Acupuncture
  • Facial cupping
  • Facial gua sha
  • Derma rolling (microneedling)

This combination provides the mind and body benefits of acupuncture with a reduction in the appearance of lines and wrinkles, relaxation of tense facial muscles, improvement in skin tone, and diminished puffiness. The reduction in lines and wrinkles looks natural and doesn’t “freeze” the muscles of the face, and these treatments are super relaxing rather than painful.

Now that you know that there’s a natural Botox alternative, let’s talk about these individual treatments and why they’re beneficial for aging skin.

Acupuncture is the practice of stimulating acupuncture points located on meridians (the pathways where energy flows through the body) by insertion of very thin needles, laser stimulation, electrical stimulation, or pressure in order to balance the body’s energy.

Energetic imbalance can manifest in the skin (a pale or red complexion, dark spots, dark circles or puffiness under the eyes, wrinkles, etc.), so it’s important to address the imbalances in order to obtain the best results. Each facial cupping and gua sha treatment will begin with an AcuGraph examination.

AcuGraph is a technologically advanced program that assesses a patient’s acupuncture meridian energetics in about two minutes. The data from the examination will be evaluated, then acupuncture will be performed to address any energetic imbalances.

Patients may choose between acupuncture with needles or without needles (laser acupuncture). Both are effective.

The benefits of acupuncture are not limited to cosmetic changes. Other benefits include decreased pain, improved stress response, improved sleep quality, and a sense of well-being.

Facial cupping

If you’re not familiar with cupping, you might remember seeing circular marks that looked like bruises on Michael Phelps’ shoulder during the last Olympics. Those marks were made by cupping. Cupping performed on the body is great for reducing pain and increasing range of motion.

Don’t worry though. Facial cupping is very gentle and relaxing and leaves no crazy marks. Small glass cups are suctioned onto and moved between acupuncture points on the face, neck, and chest.

  • Brings blood and qi (the body’s vital energy) circulation to the skin and muscles
  • Stimulates collagen and elastin production
  • Smooths fine lines
  • Relaxes tight facial muscles
  • Moves out stagnant lymph, fluids, and toxins
  • Movement of inflammation (as in rosacea)
  • Strengthens the vascular integrity of the face

Facial Gua Sha

Gua sha is a traditional East Asian treatment that is thought to move qi. It’s performed using a handheld tool commonly made of ceramic, quartz, or jade that is scraped across the skin. Gua sha performed on the body helps decrease musculoskeletal pain, decrease inflammation, and is traditionally used for treatment of the common cold.

Similar to facial cupping, facial gua sha is very gentle, soothing, and leaves no bruising. At Bravo Women’s Chiropractic, jade gua sha tools are used.

  • Reduces the appearance of deep wrinkles, sagging skin, facial discoloration, and under eye puffiness
  • Flushes out toxins
  • Moves inflammation (as in rosacea)
  • Gently smooths myofascial adhesions

Derma Rolling (microneedling)

At Bravo Women’s Chiropractic, the AcuLift Derma Roller is used. The AcuLift Derma Roller has 540 very fine micro needles that are rolled over the skin. The needles penetrate the skin enough to stimulate collagen and elastin production without injuring the skin. Although the idea of rolling 540 needles over your face sounds painful, most users report no pain!

An AcuLift Derma Roller is purchased in the office, and the patient is shown how to properly use it at home in order to enhance and maintain their results. The AcuLift Derma Roller can be used daily for three to four months then should be replaced.

  • Clinical studies have shown that derma rolling may be just as effective as laser resurfacing, dermabrasion, chemical peels, IPL, Fraxel, or CO2 laser in stimulating collagen and elastin production. However, dermal rolling differs from these treatments in that the epidermis (the outermost layer of skin) is preserved.
  • Clinical studies have shown that using a derma roller before applying a serum or lotion may increase the effectiveness of the product up to 200 times.

Now you know that there’s a natural Botox alternative and have learned a little about the parts of the alternative. You’ve read about the benefits of each part, but let’s talk about the results you can expect.

Just as your skin didn’t age all of a sudden, the results of acupuncture, facial cupping, gua sha, and derma rolling are cumulative. The best results are achieved with a series of 10-12 treatments at a frequency of one to two treatments per week. Results are maintained with treatment once a month.

Additionally, there are many factors that contribute to the results. These factors include diet, smoking, water intake, sun exposure, stress level, sleep quality and duration, current skin care regimen, health problems, and the skin’s current condition.

These factors will be addressed at the initial visit in order to help you get the best results from your treatment.

I’m so excited to offer this natural Botox alternative in my practice! If you’d like to find out whether you’re a candidate for this new treatment, book your complimentary phone consultation today!
